Mark McKenzie
Mark is the co-founder and Managing Director of ESP Physio, establishing the business in 2012 alongside Lewis Mitchell with a vision to bring elite-level physiotherapy services to athletes and the general public across Scotland.
Mark McKenzie is a co-founder of Elite Sporting Performance (ESP Physio) and a qualified sports therapist with extensive sports experience across professional rugby, coaching, and performance development. A former professional rugby player, Mark played for Stirling County League winning team, Glasgow Warriors and several clubs in France, gaining first-hand experience of being in elite performance environments.
Following his playing career, he moved into rugby coaching and development roles, beginning with Clackmannanshire Council as a Development Officer before joining the Scottish Rugby Union as a specialist skills coach. He also managed Caledonia district teams to championship success and later served as Director of Rugby at St Aloysius' College in Glasgow, where he led a successful rugby programme.
Mark holds a National Diploma in Sports Therapy and is Cert CII qualified in insurance, supporting ESP's private medical insurance work through its sister company Shield Healthcare Solutions. Alongside coaching, he has developed a specialist interest in sports mindset and performance skills, focusing on athlete development and coaching delivery.
Since 2016, he has also helped Lewis establish a student placement programme with Queen Margaret University, providing clinical learning opportunities at ESP Physio. He is a former member of Alloa Rotary and remains actively involved in sport and healthcare development.
